WORKING WITH THE DEVICE (pics. 1 – 7)

1. Put the device into working inclined position. To do it, you have to take out a wooden thrust leg (20) from a groove for storage until stop. Try not to apply big efforts at the leg taking out.

Notice: Rarely the thrust leg is difficult to take out by a finger. If it so, use improvised subjects like: a pencil, a pen as an arm to take the leg out.

2.   Connect the “crocodile” clips (24) to the electrodes (cans) 27 or 28.

3.    Insert the plug of a connecting cord (23) into an aperture (25).

4.    Install the device on a flat surface in the inclined position as the thrust leg allows it.

5.    Supply the connection of electrodes (cans) (27 or 28) to the analyzed object.

6.    Connect the Power Unit cord (29) to the device, if you wish to supply the device from the AC outlet and put the PU into the AC socket.

7.    Put the switch (1) into «ON» position.

8.    After switching the device on, press any left or right-hand button (5), or a sensor contact in the middle of the front panel. The indicator (14) will shortly light up and the NEEDLE (15) will set into “SET” mark on a main scale of the device.

DEVICE OPERABILITY TEST

You can easily test the device’s operability by the following signs:

1)    When the device is turned on, but the connecting can’s cord is not connected to the device, there is 5 kOm resistance applied into chain, which gives “2.00” TA indication in the TA indication line of the MAIN LCD. A minimal deviation is allowed in “1.97-2.02” limits. For proper testing, do not forget to press any of “SET” buttons.

2)    When the device is turned on, and the connecting can’s cord (and cans) are connected to the device, but nobody holds the cans (for example, cans are lying on a table), there must be a value “6.55” on the MAIN LCD in the TA indication line. A minimal deviation is allowed in “6.55-6.80” limits.

3)    If the abovementioned conditions are adhered, but in the TA indication line you see any other values, it indicates the faulty device.

MAIN LCD

The Main LCD displays:

1)    A resistance of the monitored object in “TA” equivalent units.

2)    Intermediate TA Counter.

3)    Total TA Counter.

4)    Symbol of the battery charge.

5)    Symbol “P” of TA Counters’ PAUSE (appears, when the TAC PAUSE button is pressed).

6)    Symbol of AC pin plug ((appears, when the device is supplied by a PU from the AC outlet).

INTERIM TA COUNTER

The INTERIM ТА Counter line displays the information of a single “Fall” of the resistance in the scale limits after the AUTORETURN fired, or a SET button is pressed, when the needle reached the right edge of the scale.

After that the device tunes itself to a new resistance value in TA equivalent units.

The difference between the previous value and the next (new) TA’s value is that the INTERIM TA COUNER line displays.

The line continues displaying this information until next fall of resistance occurs (then the old value is substituted by a new one), or the line is zeroed after the “Rise” of the resistance (after autoreturn is fired from the left edge of the scale or a SET button is pressed manually.

TOTAL TA COUNTER

The TOTAL ТА Counter line displays the total sum of the “Falls”, calculated by the Counter and appeared in the Interim TA Counter line for some period of time (for example, a session).

That is, it summarizes all values of the Interim TA Counter with each other.

TA COUNTER PAUSE

The button “TA COUNTER PAUSE” temporarily stops (pauses) the calculating of the incoming information of both TA Counters. Repeated button pressing continues the calculating from the moment of stopping (pausing).

TA COUNTER RESET

The button “TA COUNTER RESET” zeroes the calculated information of both TA Counters. The counter begins to calculate from a start (from “zero”).

TA INDICATION DIAPASON

The diapason of sensitivity (indication) is 0,93 – 6,78 TA, according to classical conditions for devices of such class.

RETURN AND AUTORETURN OF THE NEEDLE TO”SET”

The function of the “NEEDLE AUTORETURN” is equivalent to pressing of the “SET” button manually, but allows the automatic resetting of the device and returning of the needle into “SET” position after the needle reaches any edge of the scale.

When the “autoreturn“ fires, the following actions occur:

1)    Setting the needle into “SET” position

2)    Resetting the device to the new resistance (in TA equivalent units)

3)    Counters’ calculation of the difference between previous and next (new) value of TA equivalent units.

To turn on the “autoreturn mode”, switch the “AUTO” (9) switch to “ON” position.

LCD ILLUMINATION

When you plug the Power Unit to the device to supply it from the AC outlet, the device automatically turns the LCD illumination on. If you wish, you can turn off the illumination by pressing button (2). Repeated pressing turns the illumination on.

However, we do not recommend using the illumination, when you supply the device from batteries because of the increased power consumption taken by the illumination. We recommend using the illumination only when you supply the device from the AC outlet by a PU.

SENSITIVITY REGULATOR

Increase or decrease the device sensitivity by the sensitivity regulator (3).

IMPORTANT NOTES

Owing to the permanent work over the device improvement, the following described points (2, 3 and 4) may never appear. Anyway, these points are described for the common probability of the device behavior.

1.    It is not recommended to plug or unplug the "male” plug of the can’s connecting cord, when the device is turned on (especially on a high sensitivity!). We recommend to plug or unplug the "male” plug can’s cord only when the device is turned off.  This device is a very sensitive instrument, which can be broken by an abrupt drop of resistance. Remembering that, you will be able to avoid the device breakdown.

2.    The deviation of the needle from “SET” position at 1-1.5 of the scale graduation is permitted.

3.    When a very high sensitivity is set (32-40), there is a probable needle rush to the left or right side of the scale, when you press the “SET” button.

This is a normal effect, and it does not indicate the malfunction of the device. Some repeated button pressings, as a rule, solve this phenomenon.  Actually, the most often used graduation is in the diapason of (5-32).

If these effects continue to happen permanently, it indicates the battery weakness (Usually, the MAIN LCD goes out first).  Recharge the accumulators (rechargeable batteries) or replace them, if they are weak to hold the charge.

4.    It is allowed, when the needle does not jump enough right to the “SET” position on 2-3 degree of the scale, when the autoreset fires,. It happens, when after the one “Fall” there comes another “Fall”: In that case the device becomes to read new values earlier than the needle catches to jump to the “SET” position. (We call it “subjump”).

It applies equally to a situation when after the one “Rise” there comes another “Rise”:

Note to the point #4: This “subjump” was eliminated by inserting a special delay for period of 1 (one) second. After the Autoreset fires, or when you pressed a “SET” button manually, the needle sets to the “SET” position and the device begins the proper reading in 1 second.

.5.    Testing the device, it has been marked, that the device’s behavior is close to ideal, when feeding it from batteries.

1)    Also, the device works quite well from the AC outlet when the Power Button is turned off (when the charging chain is excluded and batteries are not in process of charging).

2)    However, when feeding the device from the AC outlet with the Power Button turned on – the charging chain is on and it brings some interference to the device.  It is left on your decision – to use PU only for battery charging, or to make some mental adjustments, if some artifacts are noticed.

6. The device is sensitive to the voltage swing in AC supply (refrigerator on/off, etc.) It is characterized by a sudden single-phase needle rush or a needle autoreturn to “SET”.

Suggested solution: – to supply the device through a surge filter or UPS, or to supply the device from the battery.

7. The device is sensitive to radio waves of a high frequency (mobile or radio telephones). It characterizes by a needle vibration, when a call comes to the phone.

Suggested solution: Move away radio or mobile phones for a maximum feasible distance (more than 5 meters) from the device (for example, another room), or turn the phone off for a period of a session.

BATTERY CHARGING/ REPLACEMENT

Rechargeable batteries which come with the device are meant for up to 1000 cycles of charge/discharge. There is an indication symbol of the batteries charge realized in the MAIN LCD. When this symbol becomes empty, or when you notice that the device works inadequately (usually MAIN LCD goes out first), it means that batteries became discharged and must be recharged again, or they must be replaced if they worked out their resource and cannot hold a charge.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

In model Indigo-73we, the battery compartment is situated in the bottom of the device.

1)    Unscrew two screws of the battery compartment. Leave one screw unscrewed a little. Holding this screw, pull the cover to yourself.

2)    If the batteries compartment did not drop out to your hand by itself, hook it up by a finger or some improvised object and pull the compartment out. Pull the compartment carefully to avoid breaking of cords.

3)    Replace batteries.

4)    Place the battery compartment and its cover back to their place.

BATTERY CHARGING

The Power Unit that comes in a set with the device carries two functions:

1)    AC Supply for working with the device

2)    AC Supply for battery charging

For battery charging, connect the Power Unit (29) to the AC outlet and another end of the PU’s cord – to the device (26).

For proper battery charging, the device’s power switch must be switch to the “ON” position. Time of the full battery charge is 16-20 hrs.

For proper charging, the illumination must be turned off.

To avoid the premature lost of the batteries resource, it is very desirable that batteries would pass the full cycle of charge-discharge.

By that reason, if you like to work with your device from the AC outlet, (and the batteries are already fully charged) then, to avoid a wasted cycle of batteries recharge, device’s power switch must be switch to the “OFF” position.

Then the batteries will be excluded from the chain and will not be recharged, while you can continue working with the device.

The full charging time is 16-20 hours.

CLOCK SETTING

There are 3 buttons under the clock display.

Extreme left – (M), middle – (D), extreme right – (S).

1)   For real time setting you should press the button (M) 3 times.

2)   Indicator of “seconds” will start blinking.

3)   Press the button (S) once. Pressing (S) button, you can switch between «seconds», «minutes» and «hours» modes, as well as «date», «month» etc.

4)   Pressing the middle button (D), you set the real time in «hrs», «minutes», «seconds», «date», «month» etc.

5)   After the setting was finished, you should press the button (M) once to exit the setting mode.

6)   There are 2 modes of real time setting 12-hrs and 24-hrs. To switch between these modes, you should enter the “hrs mode” with a button (S), and then press and keep pressing the (D) button until the numbers go throughout the whole 24-hrs cycle (Symbols AM and PM will follow each other, until disappear), it means, that you entered the 24-hrs mode (you will see it when, instead of 1PM there will be a numeral 13). To return into 12-hrs mode, proceed the same cycle.

7)    To enter the stopwatch, press (M) button once. Start the stopwatch by (D) button; stop by (D) button, if you want to stop counting temporarily. The repeated pressing of (D) button will continue the time count from the moment of stopping. A zeroing of a stopwatch is done by (S) button.

There is one more mode of the stopwatch. When the stopwatch is started, you, by pressing (S) button can note down the time, but the stopwatch will continue counting in “silent” mode. A repeated pressing of (S) button will display a continuing time count from a moment of a primary start of a stopwatch.

Initially, there was also an alarm mode in the clock, but it was intentionally blocked by us, the manufacturers of the device.

(If, in the process of clock setting, there a symbol of alarm clock appears, there will no alarm sound follow.)

However, you can remove this symbol from the screen by pressing with 2 matches (clips) into 2 holes  (12) and (13) simultaneously.
